Watermelon is known as a superfood for many reasons.

FROM DOCTOR TOM -
Watermelon is known as a superfood for many reasons. New research shows that it actually helps clean the arteries of plaque, reduces body fat, and even lowers bad LDL (low density lipoprotein) cholesterol. Watermelon, which contains a protein called citrulline, also lowers blood pressure and increases blood circulation. The citrulline helps produce nitric oxide in the body, which is something we talked about previously and in the Telezyme.com blog. Citrulline also aids wound healing and cell division. Finally, watermelon is loaded with 40 percent more lycopene than tomatoes. Lycopene is a plant polyphenol which is anti-cancer and helps shrink men's prostate glands.

A great way to consume watermelon and obtain all the nutrients is to put it in a blender with the white part of the rind. Of course, you could always just eat it on a hot day.
